The cello at AChA
Cellos anchor the orchestra — the bass line, the tenor melodies, and some of the most moving solo moments in the sacred repertoire. In the Australian Christian Orchestra the cello section is a close-knit group that carries real emotional weight in worship settings.
Auditioning as a cellist
We look for Grade 7+ AMEB (or equivalent). A short video — a Bach suite movement, a study, or a worship arrangement — is the easiest way in. Strong rhythm and a warm tone go a long way.

Do I need to bring my own cello to rehearsals?
Yes — members provide their own instrument. Rehearsals are at UTS Building 5 in Haymarket, with parking and public transport close by.
Is there solo or principal opportunity?
Yes. Principal and solo lines are shared across the section depending on the season's program.
